THE AMP DIARIES Corporate CELEBRATION DAYS: As a working entertainer, lol, I've worked for a lot of corporations over the years.  I spent nearly 10 years at Verizon Telephone in a sweat shop environment, 3 years at Bank of America,  or shall I say "Bank of Guadalahara", and now at another bank..... These large companies, have what I'll call "celebration days", like "diversity",  "African Heritage Days," , 'Rainbow Days " or "Gay Pride".  I remember in 2003 I lived with a boyfriend and his 19 year old daughter and 10 year old son. Jeff had suffered a bitter divorce and it wreaked havoc on his kids and our relationship. He also was disabled with his leg amputated below the knee, and a prosthetic leg. He passed in December after several heart attacks and his kids called from the hospital to give me the news that he was in a coma. If you've ever seen someone on life support, it is not a pretty sight. The ...

Art as an Artist and Artistry in Life!

As an entertainer, I am often misconstrued for the "performance" onstage ( which varies based on the crowd, venue, my mood, and the performance) whether singing, acting, doing a stunt or comic venture. I play with erotic, obscure, humor, sho...ck effect, craziness, & spontaneity. The "opinions" ("they're like assholes, everybody's got one") are amazing and all different. Yet, I am approached and meet people based on the persona projected on stage in a performance, sometimes, similar to my inner core, and other times far from what I really am deep inside. I don't care as I need to project what comes from me inside in a creative manner for the rest of my life, despite naysayers or support, it is an urge and gift that will continue to develop and challenge me as an artist, as i challenge myself to continually "layer" my experiences into one artist, yet many forms of art. I do not strive to satisfy mainstream, only the wave of pass...

RACISM AND BIAS IN THEATERS

WELL, after finishing a stint as a Director at Masque Theatre with one of the first mULTICULTURAL Casts in years, I can honestly say that this theatre group in Temple Terrace needs to make some big changes. First, The Board of Directors actively cast tHEMSELVES in their own shows, and direct them. They merely fill in the "cracks' with the community and the communities money, begging for financial support, however, NOT involving the entire community. I presented to this theater Board the US Census for Tampa showing 110,000 approximately whites in Tampa, and about 98,000 blacks, though predominately all shows at this theatre where chosen for PRE casting of existing Board members and whites predominately. The children's show had a few hispanic. But Blacks? no.......and no openmindedness to even choosing shows that would open up that spectrum. When asked to direct Play on!, I took the challenge when Ruth Kegel as the Director's of Willy Wonka much preferred "pirating...
